While many other options have plenty of bells and whistles (we’ll get to that later!) Avoma is about simplicity and ease of use. It integrates with your calendar, transcribes, and allows you to take notes for later reference.

If you have any kind of voice interaction with end-users, customers, or even your team, there’s some real value to benefit from with Avoma.

If you’re in a different department and already a little resentful of sales (cough Customer Success cough), this ain’t gonna make your life any easier. Sorry!

Avoma vs Gong

This is like comparing a cruise liner and a row boat. They both sail the seas (or see the sales…see what we did there? 😉😉), but they are very different beasts.

If you want to push sales hard and money isn’t an object (or less of an object, at least), then Gong will hands down deliver. If you want simplicity and savings, then it’s Avoma… but then you’re going to be lacking in simple functionality that would get in a tool such as tl;dv.

3. Fireflies.ai

Fireflies.ai is an AI-enabled platform focused on conversation intelligence, document analysis, and automated transcription services – with a somewhat specific focus on customer service. It’s not super sales-driven or customer-facing per se, but certainly has functionality that lends itself to both.

One of the more standardized tools on this list starts with a free tier that records audio & video of meetings. It transcribes conversations, adds timestamps and more. However, if you want speaker recognition, this tool doesn’t offer it.

While it is simple, it does pack a lot of good features in and offers a different levels of entry for different size companies.

  • Equally, even with the “unlimited” recording, there are monthly credit limits for some of the functionality

Fireflies vs. Avoma

While on the face of it, Fireflies would be the better of the two with its free tier and functionality, there is a slight concern about the structured pricing.

With Avoma, although the pricing starts at $17 USD/month and there are costs for add-ons such as CRM, the pricing appears to be more upfront. Fireflies, while it does have some good AI additions and is well known, it does seem to have some hidden pricing and fees that could end up being a nasty surprise.

If you’re a smaller team and want to keep the costs down and not too bothered about video recording, transcribing, etc, then Avoma will certainly scratch that itch. For anything more advanced or larger teams, it might be worth going with Fireflies. However, be aware that both it may be a bit up and down when it comes to what tier will suit you and your needs best.

Offered as “a conversational intelligence platform that helps sales teams improve performance and reduce acquisition costs,” Salesken offers a lot of great functionality for sales teams in a full omnichannel style approach.

As well as recording meetings, it loops in lots of other platforms, tools, and touchpoints that a sales rep or agent uses to create a big picture of your sales team overall.

From looking at who is dealing with objections most effectively to analyzing sales calls in real-time, it has the potential to be incredibly powerful and useful for larger sales-driven organizations.

Pros

  • Like sales coaching on steroids, it listens, assesses, critiques and gives suggestions to sales reps in real-time
  • Integrates with CRM and other tools 

Cons

  • Can’t share calls outside the platform, so no good for sending clips to prospects for additional buy-in
  • It’s very geared up for sales, like solely for sales, and it can’t be used for other departments
  • It could be viewed as intrusive and distracting with its AI insights and intelligence
  • Pricing is not transparent
  • Requires some setup and onboarding

Salesken vs. Avoma

Salesken is really geared up for sales teams and larger organizations. And, while Avoma could cater to those too, it’s not quite as in-depth.

Salesken has features focused on helping sales reps be more productive and efficient, whereas Avoma is more generic in terms of its overall offering.

If you have a call center-style approach, or high volume, video calling sales process that requires more of your business’s eyes on the staff than the prospects, Salesken is great.

Much like Gong and Salesken, it is solely sales driven and offers a suite of features and analytics that can be used to increase sales and revenue.

  • Very focused on sales and revenue generation
  • Offers AI insights with advice on how to improve sales performance and process
  • Can also analyze emails as well

Cons

  • Pricing is not transparent, so it’s difficult to gauge the investment. However, expect to pay between $1,000 and $2,000 per rep, per year
  • It only works with Zoom
  • Insights could be deemed as micro-managey rather than supportive

Chorus.ai vs. Avoma

When looking between the two, much like Gong, Avoma is better suited for smaller teams whereas Chorus.ai seems to be best used by larger organizations looking to drive sales performance and increase revenue. For example, suppose you are a multinational company with hundreds of reps. In that case, Chorus could provide huge insight and data to supercharge those AI insights into closing way more deals.

There is, however, the $$$$ Million dollar question: Cost.

Avoma has a free tier, albeit with limited insight, but as an Avoma alternative, Chorus does not. You can demo the product and even get a free trial, but a complex tool like Chorus that requires a bit of hands-on learning could be an expensive test.

The Verdict: Is Avoma Right For You?

A huge range of tools out there caters to the space that Avoma sets itself in.

As a sales and customer-based tool, there are some incredibly powerful, AI-driven sales meeting recorders that claim to support and enhance sales teams. As Avoma competitors, they do offer an alternative but are at a totally different price point, resource, and time buy-in.

If you are looking for something more agile, that can be used for sales as well as with other departments, then Avoma is feasible but probably not the best value.
